ShoutFest Battle of the Bands

October 31st, 2007

This Saturday Nov 3rd, the Well will be competing in the ShoutFest Battle of the Bands hosted by Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, FL. We’re excited about the opportunity to play and look forward to sharing our music with others.

If you are able to make it, we’d love to have you come and support us.

My First Blog (embarrassing I know)

August 22nd, 2007

It has been a ridiculously long time since we posted anything of interest on our site. Unless I am struck with more inspiration than I feel right now, it could still be a while. It comforts me to know that the likelihood of anyone taking the time to read this is slim to none. Who loves Andrew Peterson? My guilty pleasure in the middle of my work days of late has been tuning in to Andrew Peterson’s Studio blog. He is making a new record. This is always a good thing. He and the “Captains Courageous” (Ben Shive and Andy Gullahorn) have posted some great videos of their work, and not-work on the new record. Anyone with kids will find Andy Gullahorn’s post hits hilariously close to home. You can, and should view these hilarious videos here. You won’t be disappointed.

Things are beginnning to pick up a little for us. We have entered a competition in November. I really hope we win. I guess we wouldn’t enter if we didn’t want to win. That would be a great waste of an exorbitant entry fee. There is a battle of the bands in Winter Haven, Florida, just outside of Orlando. If we come in the top three we get to play at a festival called SHOUTfest with a lot of artists who are bigger and more talented than us. I’ll keep you posted on when we are playing (again, I am assuming someone may actually read this). It would be great to have someone singing our lyrics back at us from the audience. That happened once.

We are working on some new music also. We will try to post some here and on our myspace for you. Until then…

We Could Be Heroes…

April 24th, 2007

For just one day?

I love the show Heroes.  I won’t ruin the story for everyone, but it’s right up there with Lost:  A large cast of interesting characters, great acting, great writing.  What I appreciate is that its not afraid to kill off a few main characters.

I was talking with someone the other day about how when I was growing up television was horrible.  No real actor wanted to be in television.  Television programming consisted of Soap Operas, family sitcoms (Family Matters, Who’s the Boss, etc.), and a few crime dramas.  There were a few bright spots like X-Files and Seinfeld, but generally there was a paucity of great cinematic writing and style.

It seems now, however, that television is becoming as respected an artistic medium as film.  Shows like Lost, Heroes, 24, anything that Bruckheimer touches, and Blues Clues (guilty pleasure) attract great writers, actors famous for their work in film, and a wide audience that not only tunes in every week, but participates in Alternate Reality games and subscribes to podcasts about the show.

Up to Jack

April 20th, 2007

That’s what it may seem like, but The Well has been very busy. Seriously. This month we have been busy getting our press kits ready to be sent to churches and industry reps, getting our name out there. One big piece of exciting news is that we are now up on iTunes! If you don’t have the album, click on the link below or visit our Store page. If you already have the album stop by iTunes and leave us an album review. Positive feedback is the best way to get people to stop by our page.

Find The Well on iTunes!

I assure you that future blogs will be less “nuts and bolts” and more poignant reflections on faith and life.
